Block Encrypted Attachments in Google Workspace

How to protect against encrypted attachments from untrusted senders in Gmail.

Overview

Encrypted attachments can be used to bypass malware scanning, making them a common vehicle for delivering malicious content. Enabling this setting ensures Gmail blocks encrypted attachments from senders your organization doesn't trust.

Prerequisites

  • Super Admin access to the Google Admin console

Instructions

  1. Sign in to the Google Admin console

  2. Navigate to Apps > Google Workspace > Settings for Gmail > Safety

  3. Under Attachments, enable Protect against encrypted attachments from untrusted senders

  4. Click Save
