Overview

Safe Browsing protects users from malicious websites, dangerous downloads, and harmful extensions. Enforcing this policy through the Admin console ensures it applies consistently to all managed users regardless of their individual browser settings.

Prerequisites

  • Administrator access to the Google Admin console

  • Users are signed into Chrome with their managed Google account

Instructions

  1. Sign in to the Google Admin console

  2. Navigate to Devices > Chrome > Settings > Users & browsers

  3. Select the organizational unit you want to apply this setting to

  4. Search for Safe Browsing and locate the Safe Browsing Protection Level setting

  5. Select the appropriate protection level for your organization:

Standard β€” Select Safe Browsing is active in the standard mode. Protects against known dangerous sites, downloads, and extensions.

Strict β€” Select Safe Browsing is active in the enhanced mode. Provides stronger protection but requires sharing more browsing information with Google.

Once selected, click Save.

Note: These settings apply only when users are signed into Chrome with their managed account. For your highest-risk users, consider enrolling them in the Advanced Protection Program for maximum security.
